Air Force 1 History
The Nike Air Force 1 quickly rose to prominence thanks to a variety of collaborations and well-worn general releases. The Nike Air Force 1 was created by Bruce Kilgore in 1982. It was released in both a High Top and Low Top version. The silhouette remains a top-selling brand item, despite being decades old. It is worn by celebrities such as Travis Scott, Hiroshi Yamawara, G-Dragon and many more.
There are five styles available: low, mid, superlow and high. The connected strap is included with the mid. The high-top Air Force 1s have a velcro strap. The mid-top strap secures to the shoe, while the high-top’s strap can be removed and moved on certain models. The shoe is available in a variety of colors and styles, but the most popular Air Force 1s are white.
A small medallion is another distinguishing characteristic of Air Force 1 shoes. It is attached to the bottom of the laces, but has holes on both sides so that it can be pulled off by sliding the shoe lace. The medallion has the inscription “AF-1”, the year “82” and is historically made of silver-colored metal (perhaps even pewter). The original design of the medallion was circular. However, it has been redesigned to reflect the 25th anniversary of Air Force 1 in 2007. The original medallion material was also redesigned.
Nike Collaboration
The Air Force One, as it is sometimes called, has seen many iterations over the years. Some have been technical upgrades, while others are more artistic. The SF-AF1, Lunar Air Force 1 and Acronym’s Downtown AF1 all sought to be more practical, but partnerships with Supreme, KITH and Off-White have given the model unparalleled versatility.
The Air Force 1 has seen everything, from hidden artwork to subtle street wear branding. It has been a symbol of Nike’s entire umbrella since its inception. The Air Force 1 is a symbol of Nike’s Jordan Brand influence, ACG references and powerful messaging, all within the space of one calendar year. Recent examples include pairs who have sat down alongside Colin Kaepernick and supported a cleaner environment to celebrate Earth Day. They also wore bold colors in support of Pride Month via the “Be True” series.
Despite being so varied, the AF1’s Triple White and Triple Black colorways remain a staple in its collection of styles. The latter is controversial due to its unusual associations, but the former is a well-worn icon that has been the perfect canvas for sneaker customizers. Fans of all ages love it and keep it in their wardrobes.
Prices for the Air Force 1 vary depending on their style. The majority of Air Force 1 models will be available for purchase at $90 USD, while limited editions may sell for up to $250 USD
